Hello Shamrocks!

Here are the highlights and updates from the latest games and events.

A Quick Look Back…

U17 Championship Final

Wednesday 10th July, Greenford, 19:30

North London Shamrocks vs Taras

In a tough U17 Championship Final, North London Shamrocks fell to Taras 1-13 to 0-7. Despite missing our regular goalkeeper and three starters, plus having four players nursing injuries, the team played brilliantly in the first half, leading by three points at halftime. However, injuries in the second half saw us pushed back. A tough evening, but we’re proud of the effort. Thanks for all the support!

U15 Championship Final

Sunday, 14th July – Greenford – 10:00

North London Shamrocks Vs St Kiernans

The U15s put up a valiant fight in the County Final against St Kiernans, narrowly losing by 3 points (St Kiernans 3-14 to NLS 4-8). Despite being down by 4 at halftime and 10 midway through the second half, the boys showed incredible character, scoring a goal with the last kick. With just a few more minutes, who knows what could have happened? Huge thanks to Joe O’Reilly for his support and care of our players.

NLS U14s Girls – London/Herts Championship Shield Winners

Last weekend marked a significant achievement for our U14s as they clinched the London/Herts Championship Shield at Parnell’s, Harrow Rugby Club. The finals day was the culmination of the league season, where teams were seeded based on their results this year, placing our U14s in a competitive league format against St Clarets, St Joseph’s, and Tara.

Our U14 team, a dynamic mix of players aged 10 to 14, showed remarkable resilience and determination throughout the day. Despite being well beaten by St Joe’s, who went on to win the cup, they bounced back impressively. In their final league game, they narrowly lost to Tara by just one point, showcasing their fighting spirit and ability to compete at a high level.

The momentum built throughout the day carried into their Shield final against TCG. Demonstrating excellent teamwork and skill, our U14s confidently secured victory with a score of 1-3 to 0-1. This win is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and the solid development of the team.

This victory is not just about the trophy but also about the growth and development of our young players. The team has shown that with perseverance and teamwork, they can overcome challenges and achieve great success. The club is incredibly proud of their efforts and the sportsmanship they displayed throughout the tournament.

Congratulations to our U14s for their fantastic performance and for bringing home the London/Herts Championship Shield. We look forward to seeing their continued growth and success in future competitions.

NLS U18s Girls – London/Herts Championship Shield Winners

A similar Championship format ran for the U18s as the U14s, with our girls playing out a league grouping against Parnells, Tara, and St Joseph’s Waltham Cross. They secured two dominant wins sandwiched either side of a loss against a strong Tara team on the day.

This performance put them into the Shield Final against St Joseph’s, whom NLS had beaten earlier 3-4 to 1-0 in a rather fractious encounter. The final saw a very pumped opposition determined to even the score. Despite going 2 goals down early in the first half, NLS fought back to go in at halftime tied at 2-0 apiece.

The second half was equally close, with the game going into injury time drawn 3-2 to 3-2, and both teams coming close to a winner. But, it was NLS that broke well, and with the last kick of the game, Grace Hanrahan took her chance to convert the winning point .

It was a great result from a very depleted squad, including 3 of our U14 players (Keeva Linehan, Alys Walls, and Hazel O’Connell), who had played in the winning morning session and contributed magnificently to the afternoon’s success. Come on the Shamrocks!

Congratulations to our U18s for their incredible determination and teamwork!

Reserves Battle It Out

The Reserves faced a tough match against Wandsworth Gaels, starting strong and going ahead by a couple of points. However, as the half wore on and Wandsworth began to find their groove, they started to dominate. A couple of well-worked moves resulted in goals that carved open the centre of the Shamrock’s defence like a knife through butter.

Some inspirational words at half-time by the effervescent Vinny Murphy sparked a much more spirited and determined performance in the second half. The Shamrocks showed great resilience, winning the second-half battle.

There were standout performances from a couple of debutants and Tom Raban, who, despite only playing his first few games of Gaelic football, is beginning to show his ability. Despite the final scoreline of Wandsworth Gaels 6-17 to 0-11 North London Shamrocks, the team’s second-half performance gives plenty of positives to build on.

Special thanks to John Ryan for generously buying drinks for everyone after the game. Well played, lads!

Felim Makes It to Croker for London

Congratulations to Felim Conroy, who was part of the panel that helped London beat US GAA to make it to the All-Ireland Junior Football Championship Final. London narrowly lost to New York in the final at Croke Park, 0-13 to 0-12. With our talented youth, this is surely the first of many to make it to Croker.
