Welcome to North London Shamrocks GFC: A History of Success

Discover the rich history of North London Shamrocks GFC, a football club with roots dating back to 1967. The club’s journey began when St Theresa’s GAA, founded by Joe Lynch and others, achieved remarkable success in securing numerous cups, shields, and league titles. Simultaneously, Sam Maguire GAA, formed in the early 1980s by Mick Cafferkey and Kevin Lavelle, made its mark at an intermediate level with several victories.

In 1982, another chapter unfolded with the establishment of Shannon Rovers GAA, led by Brendan Dooley and John Coleman, claiming the intermediate championship in 1994. However, facing declining player numbers, a significant decision was made in 1996 during a joint AGM. St Theresa’s and Sam Maguire’s united forces, giving rise to Shannon Rovers/Sam Maguires.

Shannon Rovers + Sam Maguires

The merger proved triumphant, clinching the Intermediate League, Shields Cup, Murphy Cup, and the 2002 Championship, captained by Michael Higgins.

The story took a pivotal turn in 2005 when St Theresa’s of Ponders End and Shannon Rovers/Sam Maguires of Wood Green amalgamated to form the North London Shamrocks GFC. Spearheaded by Tom Galvin, Ollie Cormac, and Tom Kilcommons, this successful merger ensured the continuation of GAA football in North London.
