As the wind starts to bite, we’re entering the business end of the season. Our seniors are gearing up for some key fixtures, but it’s been a tough week for our U17s, who faced a heartbreaking loss in their final last weekend. Despite the result, the lads showed incredible spirit. On a brighter note, our much-anticipated Golf Day is upon us, promising fun, competition, and a chance to bring the community together. Let’s dive into all the latest updates!

A Quick Look Back…

Tough Day at McGovern Park for NLS U17s in the London League Final

U17 League Final
7th September McGovern Park-Ruislip – 12:45pm

North London Shamrocks 2-5 vs 1-12 Tara

It was a challenging day at McGovern Park for North London Shamrocks U17s last Saturday, as they narrowly missed out to fierce rivals Tara in the London U17 League Final.

NLS started slow, allowing Tara to race into a four-point lead early on. However, a long-range effort from right half-forward Joe Donouzjian dipped under the bar for a crucial goal, sparking the Shamrocks into life. Gaining much better possession, NLS dominated the remainder of the first half. A well-worked goal from Jack “JJ” Thompson, along with points from Killian Giblin, Theo Ritchie, and Joe Donouzjian, saw NLS go into halftime leading 2-3 to 0-6.

The second half was a tightly fought contest, with both teams defending stoutly. NLS struggled to build on their halftime lead, managing only two further points, while Tara patiently chipped away, converting their chances. In the final quarter, NLS launched a series of attacks, but the defining moment came when a superb strike from full-forward Oisin Hegarty rattled off the Tara crossbar. Just minutes later, Tara capitalized with a goal at the other end. A last-minute point from Cian Galvin offered some consolation, but it wasn’t enough, as the match ended with Tara winning 1-12 to NLS’s 2-5.

There will be a lingering sense of an opportunity missed for the U17 lads this season in London competitions. The team had gone unbeaten in all five of their league matches, topping the final league table in May, only to fall short in the Championship final against Tara in July, despite being hampered by injuries and absences.

The team now looks ahead to late September, when they will travel to Parc na hEireann in Birmingham to defend the All Britain U17 Club Championship title they won last year. Hopes are high for a strong showing to cap off the season on a high.
